Garrett was asked to play on the summer ball team for the Varsity at Bel Passi as a first baseman, outfield, pitcher. After having been gone for the first week plus of the summer season, he made his presence felt in his first game back. With a runner on in the first inning, he hit a ball deep to right off the light pole for a legitimate over the fence home run. Having intimidated the other team with his first at-bat, he went on to see no good pitches in his next three at-bats walking each time.
