Griffin's Birth

Griffin started to announce his coming right around 8:30pm on the 22nd. As the contractions progressed, we made arrangements to go into the hospital. Griffin decided to make labor a little more difficult by being in a posterior position (which means his head was down but he was turned 180 degrees the wrong the way), so with a little help from forceps, Griffin joined us at 1:18am. He was pretty blue to start, but boy did he start breathing and making his presence known. I don't think he stopped crying or making noises for over an hour. He weighed in at 8 pounds and 4 ounces with a length of 20.5 inches, making him our biggest child yet at birth. Good thing he didn't stay in until 40 weeks gestation, he was one week early.

Yeah, Mommy got her epidural early in the process, of course she was 6cm dilated when we got there.

Ugggghhhh, this scale is cold, what are you doing to me?

I'm checking out my parents on the outside, well they sound about the same, but they look a little different than I imagined.

Now I know why they make these hospital cribs see-through, so you can keep taking pictures even when I'm asleep.

Grammy and Poppy came by to see their new grandson: oh, I've heard a lot about you guys.

Nothin' wrong with a little lovin' from Grammy.

I'm practicing saying "ahhh" but I guess it would be more helpful when I have teeth...

Mommy said I was a lot of work coming out, but now I'm definitely worth it.

Can you believe their smiles at 1 in the morning, I must have been born to a pair of crazy doctors who are used to being up at this hour...

Griffin's Big Brothers

The boys initial reaction to Griffin was better than could be expected. They both were so excited to see him and kept saying that "he is so cute." Bryce liked pointing at him and saying "brother" and "baby Griffin." It was nice to have some time just the five of us in the morning where they could meet their brother. When Joy arrived home with Griffin, they both sat next to the car seat and stared intently at Griffin. Garrett vowed to teach him all about Star Wars, and Bryce said he wanted him to eat mac and cheese.

Wait til he gets a load of me.

So these are my older brothers...can I go back inside Mommy?

I'm ready to be the helpful older brother: can I hold him gently please?

An all boy surrounding, we were discussing who was going to teach him what.

He's so cute, I think I could just fall asleep peacefully loving him.

I'm just checking out some of my sleeping arrangements: this will do.

Baby Update: Griffin In-Utero

There were things that we just had to do before Griffin was born so that we felt like we had prepared and done some things equally for all three boys. You know, you don't want a big dropoff in how people care or appreciate the third child...

I really wanted to write on Mommy's belly too, but she wanted Daddy to do the honors.

Are we ready to be big brothers?

Our new family picture for the wall, next time it will include Griffin.

Hopefully we'll be this loving when Griffin arrives...or so Mommy and Daddy request.

We love you Griffin.

Mommy said she wanted to enjoy the last time she was going to be pregnant, she sure is beautiful.

Are Mommy and Daddy ready for zone defense?

Garrett 3y 11mo

Garrett is almost 4 years old now. He has really gotten excited about having another younger brother. He has been asking questions about when he gets to meet Griffin and wants to have everything ready for his arrival. He was a big help with the construction of the new playhouse and wanted to use all of his tools to help out as much as he could. He also wanted to test out anything that was finished as soon as possible.

Naming all of my new lego fighters was a fun task, just try to say "zazazoozoo" a bunch of times.

I can help Tim put up the internal wall, right Daddy.

Good job Bryce putting the bolts in, now I will screw them into place.

I am fully equipped to work in the yard.

Daddy, we need to clear this area for the new playhouse.

You can't tell that I like being wet, can you?

Bryce, this is how you do it.

Wax on, wax off.

Bryce 20 months

Bryce had his last month as being the baby in the family and it seems like he is ready to enjoy being an older brother. He continues to amaze us with full sentences and trying to be a big help. We thought it would take him a couple of weeks to master the ladder up to the new playhouse, but he figured it out in one day! It will be interesting to see how he takes to his new brother.

Peek-a-boo!

I've got my construction site.

Daddy, everything you put in, I might just have to take out, but I promise I won't swallow anything.

This one goes here, that one goes there.

I've got some big shoes to fill here.

I love my Easter bunny, will my new brother be this cuddly?

Ooops, lost my shoe...maybe I was trying to do that.

I can do yard work too, you know.

I'm ready to give my try at blasting the ball off the tee.

We are the definition of wet at this point.

So after you dip the sponge in the soapy water, can you just throw the sponge at the car?

Easter in Tracy

We had some more egg hunting on Easter itself. This time there were messages in the eggs with the candy to remind us of the true story of Easter. Then we spent the afternoon in Tracy with Brett's parents and sister's family. The kids enjoyed another egg hunt with their cousins.

Daddy laid down the rules of the egg hunt and then we helped each other find all the eggs.

Green, my favorite color, and pretty much the only one I will say when asked what color something is.

Oooooh, I got one, and this is where I put it.

So what easter basket is Griffin going to use?

Grammy told us to find our colors, and we did.

This is FUN!

We cousins all show our various prizes off to the camera.

I think there might be one under the bricks, but I'm not sure I can lift it.

I just need one more!

I think we did a pretty good job getting most of the coloring on our eggs and not on our hands or hair.

Grammy, look at my yellow egg, kind of looks like the ship that Padme and Jar Jar drive on Naboo.

Aunt Wendy and Uncle James with their two princesses: Rachel and Haley. Good thing we took nice pictures before we started to play Star Wars.
