South Carolina Trip

We returned to South Carolina again this year for the ICON tournament and conference in Columbia.  This time we knew the area, where to stay and not stay, and where to go to church.   Bryce had to be there Saturday night and we flew into Charleston this time.  Griffin had to report on Sunday midday for his role.  Joy and I weren't expected until Monday...well not entirely true, Joy had a lecture to give for orientation for the tournament to come on Tuesday.  But we would spend Sunday evening out at a nice long meal with fondu, something we hadn't done in possibly 20 years?  Monday morning, Bryce led the leader breakfast with Kelsey in a chemistry theme which was remarkably unique and well received.   Monday evening was the theme party and we dressed up as super heroes.  Bryce led one of the rooms with a medical theme. Tuesday, Joy was in evaluator orientation, Brett was in tab (and pulled to evaluate two rounds), Garrett was playing multiple roles, and Bryce and Griffin were competing in the tournament.  Wednesday the showcases were announced and Griffin did interview, while Bryce and Griffin were in their ORAD with Jake.  Then it was on to the awards ceremony that night with Garrett continuing in his role as MC along with Charlotte for the week.  Thursday was highlighted by the dinner in the gymnasium where we honored Mary Gunther on her retirement from ICC and celebrated the incoming intern class with their liaisons Garrett and Kelsea.  This time we weren't quite as tearful as we had gotten used to him leaving and coming back.  The next day, we packed up and left for Charleston, but first we stopped at Congaree National Park and met the Richardson family there.  The following day, we slept in and while the Jungingers went to Fort Sumter, we went to Fort Moultrie and experienced Carolina Day with a re-enactment of the War for Independence and then some time at Sullivan's Beach and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean before an evening double date night for the adults.  The next morning we went to Awaken Church in Charleston which had an impressive sound system.  We were accompanied by the Jungingers and then joined but the Adkins.  Then we concluded our time with some axe throwing before getting on our plane to come home.
