The Giants usually only had their November camp every two years, so it was a surprise when they went back to back years at Oracle. The weather was beautiful and Brett was on a team WITH Jacob this time instead of against him. Joel Youngblood, famous for getting a hit for two different teams in 1982 against two different future Hall of Fame pitchers on the same day, was Brett's manager. Brett was tasked with the opening day assignment against the eventual champions, a team which featured last year's MVP. Brett faced him four times and he popped him out twice and walked him twice. He struggled some in the first game, but threw a complete 5 inning game with a whopping 124 pitches. Joy and the boys were there for G1 and then we had an amazing take out dinner in the hotel room before they had to head back home for Joy's work and Garrett's MJC class. The next day, Brett played shortstop the whole game and turned a couple of nice plays into outs. In the final game, Brett started again and competed four innings allowing only 2 runs while striking out 6 in an efficient 58 pitch effort before going behind the dish for the final two innings in his team's lone victory. The team finished 1-1-1 in the three game tournament. |
