The first men's baseball game of the year occurred at the beginning of the summer and drew quite the crowd--we had three teams for the first time and so negotiated with the field and umpires to play three three inning games. The championship team was pretty obvious from the results of the three games with Chris' MoDawgs team going 2-0. Brett, pitching for team Icy Hot, had the misfortune of pitching to Eric, who before he stepped into the box asked Brett to take it easy on him. The first pitch got away from Brett and hit Eric on his left shoulder sending him to the ground, fortunately unhurt. So Eric figuring it wouldn't happen again, took a pinch runner at first and continued his at-bat only to have the second pitch head for his left shoulder again...but he fouled it off with the nob of the bat in self-defense. The next pitch was about 5 feet outside and then the next was a 20 mph lob ball that Eric lined right back at Brett and up the middle for a hit. Eric graciously dove and missed a drive in the gap that Brett hit for a bases clearing triple later in the game.
