For Joy's birthday, she wanted a challenging bike ride and a fun time with food afterward. Brett thought he found the perfect fit with a bike ride on the west side of Lake Del Valle in Livermore. Well, things may have turned out a little more ideally had he remembered to lock down Griffin's front tire, which was lost somewhere on the road between home and the freeway. So we spent an hour and a half and $250 later and we had a new front tire with disc brake set up for Griffin's bike. Then we arrived later than expected and the wind had begun to whip up and the temperature had dropped 15 degrees! Fortunately, most of our crew had some emergency sleeves, etc stashed in the car. Then we began the bike ride, which started going down which was a bad sign since it sure looked like it was going up...and up...and up. Huh, I guess that is what is meant by 1200-foot elevation gain on a semi-gravel path! I was assuming a more gradual incline? We gave our bikes a good walk to the top of the hill and had a beautiful view of the lake. The path down to the lake on the other side was similar in its straight down look. Pass! Then we had to find a better way down than steep gravel, so we found a really narrow, winding path that only led to a few issues on the way down which we all survived. Then we packed up the bikes for DeBoccery, where we rented a Foot Pool court and ate dinner before heading home.
